American Montessori Academy delivers the highest standard of Montessori education by meeting the academic, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of children 8 weeks to 9 years of age. We are a network of independent Montessori schools that offers year-round, all-day programs based upon the Montessori Method in stimulating learning facilities, located in the South Loop, Andersonville (opening in 2021), affiliates on the North Shore, and online through engaging remote learning curriculum.
Our main objectives are to provide a carefully planned, stimulating environment which helps children develop within themselves the foundational habits, attitudes, skills and ideas which are essential for a lifetime of creative thinking and learning. When engaged in well-structured tasks, the students experience a deep inner satisfaction which leaves them with an overall positive attitude toward the joy of learning.
For Infants
Our Montessori program for infants offers a beautiful, sunlit, spacious environment that is custom designed for infants, utterly safe, and alive with responsiveness to their explorations.
Within this safe harbor, they enjoy freedom of movement to discover and interact, all the while developing gross motor skills like grasping, reaching, and climbing.
For Pre-Primary
Our Pre-Primary program provides a carefully prepared environment to aid the pre-primary student in achieving independence.
Our pre-primary community accommodates sixteen children — and based on our observations and expertise, we’ve adjusted the real-world ratio to three adults; one lead teacher and two assistants.
In this setting the children come to feel the classroom is their own peaceful, special space where they play a meaningful role in their own care and the care of their classroom environment.
The classroom is carefully prepared to meet the unique needs of this age. All furniture is a size that allows maximum independence and the pre-primary materials are designed to be attractive and inviting to the children.
For Primary
Dr. Maria Montessori characterized the Primary child at this age as having “an absorbent mind,” soaking up knowledge automatically. As a result of this natural tendency, she felt that children learn most happily and productively through independent work in an environment that has been specially prepared to meet their developmental needs.
Our Primary program offers a prepared environment filled with activities which are attractive and interesting to children and which give them clear messages on how to succeed. Teachers design work which builds eye-hand coordination, concentration, manual dexterity and self-reliance.
For Elementary
Our Elementary program supports the emerging student as they enter new developmental phases filled with wonder, interest, and active enthusiasm.
By sparking imagination and following students’ passion, teachers create an environment that allows children to thrive academically, as well as develop a sense of belonging in the classroom and community.
For Toddlers
Our Montessori program for Toddlers lays the critical foundation for the learning individual each child will become as they advance in their development.
Activities are purposefully designed to develop a sense of wonder, natural curiosity, large and fine motor skills, self-esteem, social skills, and cognitive processes.

Our Vision
Our vision is to revolutionize ABA therapy by embedding it within educational environments, ensuring that children acquire and apply skills seamlessly in real-life settings. We aim to create an inclusive community where children with ASD grow and learn alongside their peers. By integrating Montessori principles and focusing on environment-specific learning, we aspire to set a new standard for effective, individualized therapy that leads to lifelong independence and fulfillment.
By emphasizing environment-specific learning and integration within typical classrooms, we address the challenges of generalization that are often encountered when skills are taught in isolated, clinical settings. Our approach ensures that children not only learn essential skills but also apply them confidently in the environments where they naturally interact and grow.

AMA Pediatric Therapy vs. Traditional Therapy
_____________ __________ _______
AMA Pediatric Therapy: Therapy is conducted in natural environments (e.g., classroom, social settings) to ensure skills are directly applicable to real-world situations, reducing the need for skill generalization
Traditional Clinical Setting: Therapy typically occurs in a controlled, isolated clinic environment, which may not replicate the settings where children will use their skills, making it harder for children to transfer what they’ve learned into everyday life.
Social Integration
AMA Pediatric Therapy: Children are integrated into typical classrooms with peers, promoting social inclusion and fostering natural peer relationships, allowing children with ASD to practice social skills in a real-world context.
Traditional Clinical Setting: Therapy is often provided in isolation, which may delay social integration and limit opportunities for children to practice and develop social skills alongside their peers.
Tailored Therapy
AMA Pediatric Therapy: Programs are tailored specifically to each child’s unique needs, developed by a BCBA-D, ensuring that therapy is both personalized and effective.
Traditional Clinical Setting: Therapy often follows standardized, off-the-shelf programs that may not fully account for the child’s individual strengths, challenges, or specific needs.
Montessori Approach
AMA Pediatric Therapy: The Montessori approach is used to foster independence, self-directed learning, and intrinsic motivation, using hands-on, sensorial materials that engage children actively in their therapy.
Traditional Clinical Setting: Traditional therapy settings tend to be more structured and therapist-directed, which can limit opportunities for children to build autonomy and internal motivation for learning.
